Rida + Grant

There is a unique kind of magic that happens when a wedding day is softened by rain. As a photographer, I’ve learnt that the most authentic moments often occur when couples embrace the elements rather than fight them. Rida and Grant’s wedding at Tawharanui Lodge was the perfect testament to this—a “country-cosy” celebration that radiated warmth regardless of the clouds.

Rida, originally from Thailand, and Grant, manager at a media company, first crossed paths in the corporate world, working at the same company. Their wedding was a beautiful fusion of these two backgrounds, anchored by the rustic charm of the lodge. The ceremony, led by the wonderful Brenda Chapman, was heartfelt and intimate. Brenda has a gift for making every guest feel like family, and as the rain began to patter on the roof, the atmosphere inside felt even more tucked-away and special.

The “fun” element of their vibe wasn’t just a label; it was the heartbeat of the day. Between the occasional showers, we dashed outside to capture the moody, mist-covered hills of the regional park. Rida was absolutely fearless with her dress, and Grant’s laughter kept everyone’s spirits high. The rain didn’t dampen the day; it acted as a catalyst for cosyings up, sharing drinks, and hitting the dance floor early.

From the vibrant floral touches to the rustic timber of the lodge, every detail felt intentional and lived-in. It was a day that reminded me why I love this job: it’s not about perfect weather, but about the perfect connection between two people.

Rida and Grant, thank you for letting me capture your story. Your day was proof that even when the skies open up, a wedding can be pure sunshine.
